Big Fish Rentals - Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Established in 2015, Big Fish Rentals began managing just a handful of rentals in Myrtle Beach. Over the years, they've experienced impressive growth and, as of December 2024, manage over 600 short-term rentals. Their property management portfolio is predominantly made up of oceanfront one and two-bedroom condos, with properties located in popular resorts such as Avista Resort, Camelot Resort, Oceans One Resort, and Bahama Sands. Although they haven't been in business as long as some of the other vacation rental management agencies in the area, Big Fish Rentals has definitely established itself as a reputable and successful up-and-comer.

I booked with Big Fish and stayed from 08-11-16 to 2024 at Compass Cove in room 855. The refrigerator was broken, with a screw inside of it, and there were many items on top of it. The front door inside the condo, between the bedroom and kitchen, was also broken. When I got off the elevator in front of the door, there was a strong smell of urine. I stayed for five nights with a family of four. The carpets need to be cleaned and the furniture should be updated. The pictures do not look anything like the condo, so please beware... They is not enough parking space.. Please know you are getting just what you pay for...... The oven was not clean from a previous rental.

Do not rent from this company. You will be scammed out of your security deposit for damages they claim you did. I will take a lie detector test, will they? I sent a photo of damage in a refrigerator and they claim the cleaners have photos taken before I came showing the damage was not there. I have filed a claim on the Better Business Bureau. All negative reviews on there, take look before you use this scam company. I will get this resolved if I have to go to the licensing board in SC.

We were falsely accused of taking pillows, damaging the cooktop and breaking a lamp. We didn't notice any of this when we checked in. The company charged us $700 for theft and damages that we did not do. Please read all of the reviews, BBB complaints, and their unrealistic 80 rules before booking with this company. They will try to take advantage of you. Truly a disappointing and stressful experience. If you want to enjoy your vacation and feel relaxed when you get home, book with another company.

I signed an agreement to stay through Big Fish rentals which states the standard procedures, once the agreement was signed I was expected to send a copy of my credit card front and back, my license from and back, sign a paper with my signature on it and hold that paper up along with my license and credit card and take a picture holding all of these items. It sounded like a scam to me. I have never had to provide this kind of information before. My booking could not be completed until this was complete. So I didn't not complete the process, but was still charged due to them having a non refundable booking. Save your money...do NOT book through this site. I wish I had read the reviews a little more carefully before booking.

BEWARE!! SCAMMERS. This company is horrible and will try to scam you for false damages. Myself, mother and 2 kids stayed at a property that was not only not that clean but also had missing blinds, stained towels/comforter and shower drain not properly draining. I let the company know this the first night. We stayed 2 nights and were barely in the room. Came home to this company requesting reimbursement of over $1400. Stating we broke the fridge, broke the table and stained a pillow. Mind you the pictures they send are tiny and don't even load. Every pillow we used had a pillow case on it and there were 0 stains when we left. The table is cheap and a piece of the laminate popped up like it was previously glued or tapped by someone. We didn't even sit at the table! And then the fridge we used a total of 4 times to get bottle water out of. The picture they sent is close up inside the fridge reading other reviews they use false pictures. Not even sure that is the fridge in the condo. I have rented several properties from other companies and have never had any issues like this. We should've known they were shady when last minute(literally less than 24 hours before our trip) they send an email stating we have to sign and pay a security deposit. We will never stay in one of their properties ever again.

Advertising on Airbnb as host "Julie" is deceptive as it is a property management company not an individual owner. After we paid in full we received a contract from Big Fish Rentals with a never ending list of rules and petty fines. Before and during our stay I was bombarded with emails reminding me about towels, trash, not using luggage carts, etc. All with warnings of fines. The unit was OK, but with a lot of cheap uncomfortable furniture. Sure enough the day we checked out I received a message from Airbnb stating I was being charged for stained bed linens. We didn't actually sleep on the item they claimed. In any case isn't that what their extremely high cleaning fee is for; to wash their poor quality sheets? Stay away from any property listed by Julie or Big Fish Rentals.

Property Owners = DO NOT USE BIG FISH PROPERTY MANAGEMENT! Attention Property Owners: If you let Big Fish rent your property, be prepared for them to rent it for any price. As an example, my property is valued at over $400K and they rented it for $44 ONE NIGHT! Yes, $44.00 / FORTY-FOUR dollars. When I inquired about WHY, my written response was "It's better than it sitting empty at $0 is our thought process". WHAT!?!?!?!?! My dissatisfaction runs deep from their HORRIBLE guest experience customer service to the HORRIBLE customer service they gave me. Every encounter I had with them left me extremely disappointed and I cancelled my business relationship with them within the first 30 days! What does that tell you? Also, they manage the Airbnb/VRBO site however if a guest contacts them for ANY reason, they then contact you on what to do. The nickel and dime charges really add up as well and take away from your profit. It doesn't matter of you have 1 rental or 30 in one month, they charge you the same $ for what they call supplies. For one rental I paid $29 for trash bags, dishwasher pods and laundry pods. Housekeeping fee. Serious DISHONESTY here. They charge your guests $225 per stay. They then rebill you $215 per stay. When questioned, I was told this is good and this way you make $10. WHAT?!?! I then questioned why my condo was renting for between $44-$100 a night, no clear explanation was given. No way you can make any money using this company. I am now running my own Airbnb/VRBO as a SUPERHOST out of this property. I interviewed 3 housekeeping companies. The fee to clean my place was between $125-$150. Again, when profit margins are already low, it's easy to figure out who they are really in business for and it's NOT the property owner. I have everything above proven in writing and I have also opened a Better Business Bureau case. Now that I FINALLY received my last payment from them from the 1 October rental, my goal is to save someone the SAME PAIN I went through. Chad the owner is the laziest nonresponsive person you will ever deal with and his co-owner/bookkeeper Julie is filled with amazing stories and excuses. Their business model is flawed on so many levels. The importance of maintaining high standards in customer service is vital in this market and this company needs to retake that course or CLOSE DOWN!

We had a great trip in the summer with no issues so we tied to book again. Their website gave me an error message and said "try one more time". I did just that. Again, error and no confirmation. I check my bank and have two charges. No confirmation still. Reached out, customer service person was pretty short over text and said they have no confirmation and kept directing me to my bank. Basically too bad for me. My bank says the company should be able to reverse it but again, Big Fish is no help at all. Now I will have to dispute both charges and wait for that process. Now we can't afford to book a trip because have paid TWICE for a trip with no confirmation and nothing to show for it. This was a surprise trip for my son. So disappointing. It is so frustrating and I can't believe how unhelpful they are even with screenshots of the charges from my bank. Very short responses and they clearly don't care that my hard earned money is gone. I'll never book with them again. Ever.
